Growth Hormone

Sometimes we need it

As we grow, there is a hormone that is responsible for most of our development. This hormone is the famous human growth hormone (hGH). When we reach adulthood, hGH continues to play a very important role in the regulation of cellular growth, metabolism, and regeneration.

However, levels of this hormone peak when we are around 16 years of age and start to decline around the age of 25 to 30. By the time we are in our mid-50s, the body has around 50% less human growth hormone production compared to our peak.

This is one of the reasons why we have more difficulty regenerating and repairing our tissues as we age. Muscles are the most affected by this decline; hence we see decreased muscle mass in the elderly. It also affects other tissues such as the skin, which shows as wrinkles, and the bones, which show decreased density and increased risk of fracture. In general, we also observe a lack of energy and poor sleep.

By restoring levels of growth hormone to more youthful levels, you can expect to see benefits such as:

  • Increased strength, muscle mass, and exercise ability
  • Decreased body fat, especially stubborn belly fat.
  • Increased libido and sexual performance
  • Increased bone mineral density with a decreased risk of fractures
  • Improvements in concentration, memory, and thinking
  • More restful sleep

The evaluation for hGH deficiency is performed by measuring the level of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Patients that are deficient in this growth factor can benefit from replacement of human growth hormone. Other patients who appear to have “normal” concentrations from their laboratory values but are suffering from the symptoms previously described can still benefit from alternative therapies with peptides that are well-known to boost hGH secretion. When you come to your appointment, Dr. Jativa will review your symptoms and laboratory information and determine the best hormone treatment for you.
